FlipBelt and what it can hold while running

Flipbelt – The non-jiggle fitness carrying belt

I’m going to start this post off by saying that when I first saw the advertising video for the FlipBelt roughly a year ago on Facebook, I was highly skeptical. First off, I’ve never been able to keep keys, phones, and water bottles from moving around in a violent manner when I work out let alone run full speed! In some instances a protective cup is needed when trying to workout while carrying these items! So when this nice pretty video showcased a belt that could hold all of these things AND NOT MOVE, I scoffed at their claim.

A year later and trying to get into a shape other than “round” I’ve picked up running again. I despise running. Always have since I was little and had to run to train for soccer. I would rather do anything else but run. I know its advantages however, and needing to get healthy I’ve decided to bite the bullet. One of the reasons I despise it so much is the boredom I face. Sure, running somewhere new is fun and distracting, but that’s not always an option. So to keep me going I reach for my phone to play music while I run. I tried to run and carry my phone but a few sweaty grips and dropped phone instances later I knew I had to get something to hold it.

I did some research. The number of fitness “fanny packs” on the market is astounding. Sticking to my vow to never wear a “fanny pack” after the age of 8, I knew there had to be another option. Then I remembered the video of the in-shape people jumping around and running with the FlipBelt. A little bit more research…ohhh they even make their own FlipBelt water bottles too…Sold. I was an easy sell what can I say.

FlipBelt and what it can hold while running

So let’s get to it. The FlipBelt impressed me. My very first run I choose to fill up my 12oz. FlipBelt water bottle and also carry my iPhone 7 plus. So yeah I was fully loaded! Still had room for keys if anyone is wondering. It took me a bit to find the right positioning of the belt but only due to the weight of the water bottle and my “shape”. The weight of the iPhone was like nothing. The best part of all I never felt them move. After my 3 miles run I was in shock. This thing really did hold my stuff and not beat me up about it. And the other great thing about this was that when I got home I just threw it in the washing machine!

Pushing 240lbs and being 6’2, I opted for their XL size belt. The material is stretchy but sturdy so it doesn’t feel loose even though I’m at the base end of the XL sizing chart. The design of the FlipBelt holds your items close to your body flat so they become a part of you and therefore don’t jiggle all over the place. You can place items all around to fit best to your body and activity. At just a bit over $20 for the size I got, this was one hell of a deal. So if you guys are looking for the solution to running and fitness carrying problems, then this is the right way to go! Plus its just in time for the holidays and those new year’s resolutions!

Stance socks for men

Stance Socks – Step into the new age of socks

Socks. They used to just come in a handful of colors white, brown, black, and maybe blue with a handful of cuts. These days socks are fashion. They’re an extension of your outfit and your personality and blah blah blah sorry but that’s just not who most of us men really are.  If you’re like me you’re not going to justify spending the extra few dollars on a pair of socks that have some cool mural on them or fancy design especially for gym socks.  But Stance socks, they did something different. They took the cool edgy design world of hip socks and meshed it with performance footwear.

Like I stated previously I’m not one to make sure my sock game is “fresh to death” or “on-point” as the kids might say. My gym socks consisted of whatever athletic socks were in the check out aisle at my local Marshall’s. I can’t stand basic socks that don’t have the support and comfort I need so I do tend to gravitate towards athletic functioning socks as it is. I get them at Marshall’s because well it’s cheaper, plain and simple. This is how my relationship with Stance socks began.

I grabbed a pair of athletic Stance socks on a whim one day. They were grouped in with the other athletic socks but I think the design actually did draw me in, but what sold me was the quality. For those of you who’ve purchased ski socks before you know that if you go out on the slopes with garbage socks especially with rental boots…you’re gonna have a bad day.  So I felt them, I felt the thickness and texture and stretch. These weren’t like the other athletic socks. They were actually supportive, but flexible. They were thin but not paper thin. Everything about them said you will enjoy wearing these. To be honest I wasn’t thrilled about wearing socks that screamed look at me, but I’m not the type to really care what people think of me in the gym.

Day 1 of wearing my Stance socks was pretty great. I lift in black chucks. Im a simply guy, but these socks made it feel like I had a personal trainer custom make socks for me out of some pre-wrap and tape. They supported my arch, my ankle and my calves. Squats and Dead-lifts were no problem. My feet felt like they were gifts from the greek gods.

I have to admit, I’ll be buying more of these socks. Yeah I might still stalk the Marshall’s check out line to save some money, but they’re well worth the full cost and then some. This company has done a great job at taking performance socks to the next level with high quality materials and design and adding in some pretty impressive fashion. Many athletes are getting behind this company and for good reason. Do yourself a favor and next time you go to grab a 12 pack of one size fits all white crew socks, get some socks that are actually worth it.

Revamp your Gear!

Technology has come a long way since the first days of exploring the great outdoors! We’ve got lighter shoes, more durable gear, and better all around equipment! We are going to take a look at some new ways to use old gear and lighten up your load and improve the gear you’re already using!

First, let’s go with an easy one. Shoes. Lighten your load and upgrade to a pair of mid cut boots with synthetic uppers. I really like these low cut hiking boots. First off the lower weight of these will really save your back. The leg acts as a sort of pendulum when hiking and any extra weight can really add up. There’s a saying that’s something like a pound on your feet is 10 on your back. Don’t quote me on that though!

This one may not apply to all of you, but when I was much younger I was gifted a hatchet to go into the woods and use on all of the wood needed…carrying a hatchet in your sack though adds weight. Switch it out for a wire saw. It’s super light weight and takes up a lot less space!

Flashlights are necessary but with the help of technology, we’ve been able to get much lighter ones and save some space by investing in a headlamp! They’re much easier to use too and use much smaller batteries. Try to get ones that have a strap that goes on the top of your head otherwise they can tend to slip down the front of your face and that’s no fun when you’ve got your hands full of wood in the middle of a dark trail.

This tip is less of an old gear tip and more of a storage tip. Re-package your food. Most food comes in some durable container, but you don’t have to keep it in there. Repack the food into ziplock bags or find lightweight water bottles for liquids. This will light your load and save on packing space. This is a good tip for flights too!

Last but not least is more of a survival help tip that’s practical. Real parachute cord is rated at 550 lbs. The outer sheath is rated to 200 lbs that holds 7 interior strands which are rated at 50 lbs each. So for every 3 feet of cord you have 25 feet of rope. 3 feet is the minimum shoe lace length for shoes with 5 eyelets and most boots have more so you can tack on some extra and increase your length. That’s at least an extra 50 feet of rope right on your feet! Never be caught without rope again!

I hope that you’re able to take some of these tips and tricks and put them to use on your next adventure. Any ways that you’ve upgrade or changed your old gear? Leave a comment below.

Car Care tips for men to stop using armor all

Car Care: Why you shouldn’t be using Armor All!

Hey guys! I figured I’d share some car advice. Before I go anything further, I’m no mechanic or scientist for that matter so listen to the following just knowing I’m some guy who likes to take care of his cars and has listened to quite a few stories about the product known as Armor All. For the record before hearing about these issues and even during, I argued the car FOR using Armor All. I mean come on, its a product mean to protect right?

So after being first confronted with this issue, I decided to look into this. Partially because the person who brought this up was someone who I didn’t really trust as a source of information. So I started to google…and it turns out he wasn’t entirely wrong. Armor All can cause damage and it really isn’t a great product to use on your car. Now, can it make things shiny? Yes. Can it bring some life back to dull areas? Yes. But, in doing so it can do more harm than good.

In some of the cases I’ve come across, Mechanics have found tires which were treated with Armor All and being only 1 year old suffering dry rot and able to be punctured with a finger nail! The major problem seems to be that Armor All is a silicone based product. Now this really means in a nut shell that it causes a breakdown of sorts of the materials being used. I don’t know how or why this happens. Many people have claimed that certain materials need to “breathe” and that the Armor All doesn’t allow this. What happens essentially is that once you begin to use Armor All, you have to keep using it to keep it looking good until the material breaks down so much that you have to replace it.

The issue with using Armor All extends from the inside on the dash and seats to the outside on the tires and plastic. The stories I’ve seen from the use of Armor All stretch back to the 70’s and 80’s. There are substantial claims that using it thinned out a lot dashboards causing many to crack. Other people have claimed that the vinyl on the seats were cracking because of Armor All. Back in the day, cars may have needed the extra protection and hence why people turned to this product. These days, most car products are built to withstand the UV rays and will last quite a while.

With all of that being said, if you are going to find a car protectant product, find one that is non-silicone based or just do what I, and many others do, just use regular water to wipe down and clean your car. Don’t leave a film or greasy residue behind. When you use just water you’ll get a longer lasting clean because the dust and dirt won’t stick to the film left behind by Armor All and other products.

Have you had a bad experience with Armor All? Leave a comment.

PB Blaster penetrating catalyst spray better than WD-40

PB Blaster: Step aside WD-40

It’s been about a year since I was first introduced to PB Blaster. When a friend of mine first told me about it, I was like “Peanut Butter what?”.  I actually thought he was joking about it because he spoke about it like it was some magical spray that could penetrate beyond normal means to help break free rusted bolts.  At the time I was working on repairing an outboard engine on my boat.  Replacing the carburetors required a few sprays of this PB Blaster to say the least! Saltwater can really do a number on bolts! I was blow away by how powerful this product was. Up until then, I had only known of WD-40 to handle these types of tasks. After discovering what PB Blaster could do, I did some more research and felt like this was some magic potion that only pros had known about.

PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst

The original PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst blows WD-40 out of the water when it comes to penetrating rusted places and breaking down the rust to free up whatever you’re trying to get loose. For best results spray a little on the area you’re working on and let the magic happen. Wait a few minutes for best results so that the PB Blaster can do its job!  Now, I’m no scientist so I don’t know exactly how this works, but I know that you will pray to the scientists who did make this incredible product after you use it!

I’m not a mechanic by any means and I don’t have a lot of old stuff laying around that I need to use this all the time. I did, however, discover that PB Blaster makes a lot of other products that are just as incredible! At this time I have a total of 3 different PB Blaster products in my house. The original PB Blaster of course, the PB Blaster Garage Lubricant, and the PB Blaster Corrosion Stop. What’s funny to me is that all 3 were recommended to me by 3 different people who are all industry experts. The Garage Lubricant was recommended by my local Garage repairman. The Corrosion Stop was recommend by a Mercury Marine certified mechanic.

The Garage Lubricant really helps my garage door stay smooth and quiet for months and months! I notice a huge difference as opposed to when I wasn’t using anything at all. The Corrosion Stop is like I sprayed protective nano-bytes on my boat and trailer! The saltwater can really do a number on them both but with the help of the Corrosion Stop, I’m able to make sure that all of the parts, bolts, and more are protected!

If you’re looking to add some real strength to your tool arsenal, then I really recommend grabbing you some PB Blaster! It will take you to the next level of handyman!

Top 3 ways to use vinegar to maintain your home

Top 3 Ways to use Vinegar to Maintain Your House

Let me start this off by saying I was never one to believe hype about natural cleaning products, my method of selecting a cleaning product was following whatever the bottle in the store said. Now that we got that clear, let me tell you why I’m now a firm believer in using Vinegar with the top 3 ways to use vinegar to maintain your house!

  1. Vinegar to clean tile floors. Living in Florida, tile is my go to flooring. It’s cool, durable, looks great and is easy to clean….or so I thought. About 5 years ago, I had bought my first fixer-upper and replace all of the old flooring with tile. We decided to go with a bone color grout just for proper visualization. Tile is supposed to be easy to clean, well it is, but the grout is another story. Grout is extremely sensitive and can trap dirt very easily. One of the reasons grout can get so dirty so fast is that when using a cleaning product with some type of “soap” the residue gets trapped inside the grout. This leads a sort of sticking substance for future dirt to get caught in. So after only about a year of living here you could see the “high-traffic” areas that were trapping more dirt in the grout even with cleaning. This is where Vinegar comes into play. The vinegar is a great way to clean your tile and grout without leaving behind the sticky residue for your grout to continue trapping more dirt! In my current home we’ve been here for about 3 years and the grout still looks the same color as the day we got it in ALL areas! Now the question is how to use the Vinegar to clean…honestly people make up all these calculations and one part vinegar, 3 parts hocus-pocus, 8 gallons of water blah blah blah I’ll tell you what I do. 1) Get a bucket that you’d use to mop your floor. 2) Pour in enough vinegar to fill the bottom about half an inch 3) Fill up with water a little more than half way to 3/4. It’s really not rocket science. I’ve actually come to enjoy the smell that the Vinegar solution leaves when I’m done cleaning and hey it’s a safe cleaner to use in a house with kids or pets.
  2. Vinegar to keep A/C lines clear. Living in South Florida, my A/C is running year round and a down A/C is not something I ever want to deal with for even one night! If you’re not familiar with air conditioning units, they commonly have a condensation line that carries the water from the unit outside of the house. This water needs to have a clear line other wise it will get blocked and can flood your home and/or shut off the air conditioning unit. Most of these lines I’ve seen are PVC and to clear some of the lines I’ve had to actually use bleach and a hose. The hose was important to use water pressure to clear out the blockage after the bleach broke it down and necessary to rinse out the extra bleach. Here is again where Vinegar comes in. You see to best maintain these lines and make sure you don’t have blockages, you simply pour about a cup or so of Vinegar down the A/C line opening. This keeps the build up clear and it doesn’t cause any breakdown of the PVC. I’d say you can do this once a month to once a quarter depending on how much your A/C runs.

  3. Vinegar to clean glass. Now this one is a little bit more outside of my realm. Windex used to be my go to for sure but lately I kept just getting annoyed by the streaks and the feeling it would leave on the glass after. So the wife came up with a solution that I think has worked amazingly. All we do is get one of those spray bottles from home depot that are like $.97 and put in a small amount of vinegar and a small amount of rubbing alcohol and fill up the rest with water. It’s kept our windows and glass tables spotless and streak free. It doesn’t leave a film on them either which is nice to feel instead of touching a glass table feeling like you just got greased up.

So there you have it, my Top 3 ways to use vinegar to maintain your house! Save some money and buy a big jug of Vinegar and you won’t have to spend money on those fancy house hold cleaners that advertise how powerful they are. If you have any other uses for Vinegar that you like to use to maintain your house, leave a comment.

Shakespeare Catch More Fish Bass Tackle edition

Shakespeare Rod and Reel Combo for Bass

My fishing rod collection has been neglected lately and more specifically, my freshwater rod and reels were pretty much nothing.  Now I live in South Florida, where some world class bass fishing is and I actually live on a pretty large lake. So I was sad to say it had been quite a while since I did some good quality fishing in my own backyard.  I decided I needed to at least get some freshwater gear and had hear about the Shakespeare rod and reel combos.

Heading down to the local Bass Pro shops in Dania Beach near Ft. Lauderdale, I said let me just get something to catch some fish. I prefer to seriously invest (not too seriously) my money in my salt water gear so I wasn’t looking for anything too pricey. I also was not in the mood to string my reel or go look through all the freshwater lure options, nope, I wanted easy. I mean it was a Saturday afternoon and I just wanted to throw in a line and hook up with a nice bass.

After making my way through the maze of rod and reel options they had I found just what I was looking for. The Shakespeare Catch More Fish Bass Spin Combo was exactly what I needed! At only $29 I couldn’t go wrong! So I bought two! Because hey…my gift card from previous holidays needed to be used!  The Shakespeare Rod and Reel combo literally had everything I needed and more.  It came preloaded with Stren fishing line ready to go. I liked the length of this medium action rod too! Now the reel isn’t as durable feeling as I am used to with my salt water reels, but when you cast it sure it smooth. It actually is pretty powerful too when it comes to fighting the fish. You can feel some of the plastic parts on the drag knob but for a basic fishing rod this was great!

The fishing tackle kit that came with the Shakespeare Rod and reel combo was specifically for Bass. I loved the Berkley power bait soft plastics! Those are my go to lures! The spinner baits, weights, worms and crank baits have also shown that they’re ready to pull in fish!  I’ve had this rod for 2 weeks, used it only a handful of times and caught fish with every lure type!

I know that this Shakespeare rod and reel won’t last me forever, but I can say it’s already done more than I hoped for. If you guys have any other Bass combo rod and reels to recommend leave a comment! Also what is your favorite freshwater lure?  I’ll share my video review of this rod on my YouTube channel soon.

Man Creates review

Man Crates – The BEST Man’s gift ever!

I’ve been meaning to getting around to sharing this product with you guys for a long time now. This is perhaps one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever gotten as a guy in my entire life. It’s not some super crazy expensive gadget, no…its a fucking wooden box! That’s right I was given a crate for my 30th birthday and I loved it! Not just any crate though this came from Man Crates. Visit them here.

I’m not going to take too long to set the scene or anything but imagine some chic modern restaurant at a fancy hotel on the beach here in South Florida. There’s about 25 people watching…I say watching because I was putting on a show! What show was I putting on you ask? I was showing how to bust this Man Crate open!  You see Man Crates are real wooden boxes sealed with wood glue and nails.  Don’t worry all Man Crates come with their own small pry bar to bust open these crates. So here I was pounding away in the middle of this nice restaurant with my small pry bar.  Eventually after some strategic prying I busted out my prize.

Each gift comes with your choice of gear. Mine happened to be a Fishing crate. The “Bass Whisperer” to be exact! It had multiple lures, a scale, pliers, and some sunflower seeds. Oh I can’t forget the 6 pack soft coozie carrier!

Man Crates beer carrier from bass whisperer

They have multiple different categories to choose from. Everything from outdoors to sports, from cooking to drinking! They’re priced very well too!  For example most Man Creates range anywhere from $19 up to the $100+ range. This is not bad considering you get a bad ass little package containing the perfect gifts that any guy would want! I mean when is the last time you saw a guy open up a gift with a pry bar? I really think this is one of the best gifts for a guy! See what mine is like here:

Ortho Home Defense DIY Bug and Pest Control to Kill and Prevent Bugs

Ortho Home Defense: DIY Pest Control

For years I paid for a pest control guy to come and spray my house on a monthly basis. Down here in South Florida where the homes were built practically into the everglades, this was crucial. I finally discovered a way to use Ortho Home Defense properly to handle my pest control myself.

I’m the type of guy who hates to have any bugs crawling in and around his house. I never understood how people could just let ants wander around their kitchen counters or have spiders crawling around their rooms at night. Yes, I understand there is an eco-system and an order of life for these insects and some “help” by eating others. However, I just can’t live with them in my house.

My first home wasn’t a mansion by any means but the rate I was paying someone to come and spray my house to keep the bugs out was getting ridiculous.  At the time I was doing some side work with a friend of mine who did property management. One day on the job he told me we were going to be doing some pest control. He explained how he had his license to use all sorts of chemicals, but he chose to use something much simpler. He reached into the truck and pulled out the Ortho Home Defense. He says, “I swear by this stuff, you can pick it up right at Home Depot and its so easy to use.”

I had to test it out for myself, I’m a budget conscious person and the value of spraying something that costs roughly $25 per year versus the almost $300 for the frequent bug spraying was something I couldn’t pass up.

Here’s the truth, just like with normal pest control spraying this isn’t 100% bug proof. You can’t control the weather elements on the outside of your house where you spray this, which does wear down the barrier. Due to the immense amount of rain we get down here I find myself re-spraying about every 4-6 months. The jug will last me usually about a full year for a roughly 2800 sq ft house. I tend to focus mostly on the outside and once a year spray the inside.

There is a method to using this however. The trick is to spray a perimeter around the entire base of the home about 1 foot above the ground. Then encircle any outlet, light fixture, door frame, window, and any other hole in the outside of the home. If you have a second story you may opt to get a ladder and do the second story windows. I find that by going inside the house to do the inside of the upstairs windows does just fine though.

It never leaves a stain, it doesn’t have an odor and leaves my wallet a lot thicker than the option of using a pest control service.

Check out our youtube video for more tips on how to use the Ortho Home Defense.
